Pemain yang memiliki teknik dasar yang baik pemain tersebut cenderung dapat bermain sepakbola dengan baik pula.Beberapa teknik dasar yang perlu dimiliki pemain sepakbola adalah menendang (kicking), menghentikan atau mengontrol, menggiring (dribbling), menyundul (heading), merampas (tacling), lemparan ke dalam (throw-in) dan menjaga gawang (goal keeping).
